ABOUT NMB

Your Ad Here

It was April of 2005, and I was searching for a replacement bike for my Sears "special" with the warped wheels, loose cranks, and horrible brakes.

After thumbing through the Yellow Pages and searching the internet for cycle shops in the Nashville area, I realized that Nashville has tons to offer for mountain bikers, but it was difficlut to find just one website with all of that info pooled together. Nashville Mountain Bike.com (NMB) is my attempt at making it easier for people in the Greater Nashville area to find cycle shops, local trails, other riders, and any other info they need, all on one website.

The NMB Message Board is truly the area of the website that gets the most attention. If you're looking for someone to ride with today, you can easily check the Upcoming Events section and see if anyone has posted a ride already. If not, simply sign in and tell everyone when and where you'd like to ride. It's generally pretty easy to accumulate several riders over just a short period. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes and a full fledged group ride has been born for that very afternoon!! There is also much activity in the Gear & Wrench section of the board. If you're looking for help with maintaining your bike - this is the place to ask questions, it won't be long until someone helps you out, or leads you in the right direction.

To ride alone, or not to ride alone?
The #1 recurring statement from from new message board members is "I used to have to ride alone all the time," or "I haven't ridden in years because I haven't had anyone to ride with." These statements completely sum up why we've continued to put so much time and effort into keeping this community clean, friendly, and as non-anonymous as possible. It is our greatest goal for NMB, that from your first visit to the message board, you will immediately feel encouraged to sign up, say hello, and become a part of the community of Nashville riders.

Is NMB a club?
For clarification purposes, no - NMB is not a club. Several people have mentioned to me that one reason they weren't joining in on specific group rides is because they weren't a member of the "club." In no way does NMB exist as a club, or as a 'members only' group of riders. There are no sign up fees, no papers to sign, and there are no ulterior motives or hidden agendas outside of providing a non-politically based environment for mountain bikers to meet other riders and to grow the sport here in the Nashville & Middle TN area. That being said - Everyone from every race team, every trail advocacy group, and every level of rider is welcome to become a part of this online and off-road community. The more bikers that join the community, the more we all learn from eachother, and help to grow the sport!

Trail advocacy:
As my passion for mountain biking has grown, it's only fair to say that the level of responsibility I have on the trails has grown. When we're just starting out, it's easy to make the mistake of riding a muddy trail without realizing the damage that's done. But once you've learned of the negative consequences of mud-riding, it really becomes a responsibility for all of us to stay off the wet trails when applicable, and to help grow people's knowledge of such things. Trail work days are an amazing way to get to know more riders, and to really feel like you've made a difference in the community. NMB as a whole is not an organization that expects trail work out of anyone, but once you work at one trail day - I really think you'll be back for more! They're always fun, and it's great to know you helped build or fix up a particular part of trail!

Long winded conclusion:
Currently, NMB is reaching out to more and more mountain bikers than I could have ever imagined even existed in the Nashville area! We've now got a full fledged race team with nearly 40 members, and we're working side by side with many of the cycle shops in the area to help get the word out about mountain biking! Whether you're new to Nashville, new to mountain biking, or one of the area's most experienced of racers, It is my hope that NMB will become one of the websites you enjoy visiting often in search of current information, community, and a reason to get out and ride!! Please stop by the message board and say hello if you haven't already, and if you've ever got any questions about NMB, or anything that involves NMB, please don't hesitate to contact any of us on the list to the left!

Thank you to everyone!!

NMB FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

1.) I've just moved to Nashville - Are there any good places to ride my full suspension, hard tail, rigid, or single speed bike here?
    - Absolutely! There are at least 7 or 8 great trails in the Nashville area, and even more within a short 2 to 3 hour drive. Please visit our Trails page for more info on Nashville trails and Epic rides.

2.) I have photos and/or videos I'd like to have posted on NMB. Can I upload them directly to your website?
    - Currently, there's not a way to upload directly to the main website, but you can upload some pictures to the message board. If you visit Photobucket.com you can upload photos there for free and then link to them in the forum. Also, if you have videos you'd like to share - Visit YouTube.com to upload videos and then link to them yourself in the forum. Please refrain from posting vulgar, obscene, or offensive photos and videos - we'd like this site to remain family-friendly so that we can all show our parents, grandparents, and children our hobby.

3.) How can I join, or find information about Team NMB? (National Mountain Bike's race team.)
    - Please send an email to Tryon or Kelly using the contact info on the TeamNMB.com website. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and we'll get back to you as soon as possible with more info!

Who is NMB for?

NMB is for everyone! If you don't mountain bike already, borrow a friend's bike and check out a couple of the trails here in the Nashville area - we think you'll own a bike soon!

If you currently spend much of your "free" time in the saddle of a mountain bike, then you'll find NMB a great resource for your habit, hobby, or obsession!

Please help us to spread the word about NMB. Mountaing biking is already alive and well in Nashville, and nearly everytime I ride, I meet more and more people who are looking for trails info, cycle shops, and a place to meet fellow MTN bikers!!
